Recent reports show that 30% of individuals with type 2 diabetes remain undiagnosed and a significant number of those diagnosed have glycemia that is poorly controlled. Poor glycemic control and the associated diabetic complications is observed at a higher rate in individuals of color and contributes to health disparities. Advances in our understanding of the clinical management of diabetes and glucose homeostasis has ushered in a new era in the management of diabetes. The National Medical Association Diabetes Seminar will provide health professionals with an up-to-date review of current recommendations regarding screening and treatment strategies for type 2 diabetes.
