Current Concepts of HIV/AIDS & Health Disparities Symposium

fsd

HIV/AIDS and its devastating impacts are still of grave concern to our country.  Moreover, it has reached nearly epidemic proportions among African Americans, in general, and specific groups within the community, in particular. A 2011 report from the World Health Organization declared there were over 34 million people in the world living with HIV, of that number, roughly 1.2 million live in the United States and approximately 14.0% of them go undiagnosed. More alarming is the fact that while Blacks make up only 12.0% of the United States’ population, they account for 41.0% of AIDS cases. In this symposium the issues, challenges, current treatments, projects and initiatives presently underway for HIV/AIDS are presented and discussed.
